National Level ScienceX Olympiads
Parent Guide
A simple guide for parents explaining NLSO, SAI, the fee value, psychometric access, rankings, privacy, and support.
What Your Child Gains from NLSO
The National Level ScienceX Olympiads (NLSO), conducted under the National Scientific Assessment Test (NSAT), are designed to help students discover their academic strengths, identify areas for improvement, and develop scientific thinking.
NLSO goes beyond prizes, ranks, and certificates. Its assessments emphasise conceptual understanding, application of knowledge, logical reasoning, problem-solving, and interpretation. The aim is to encourage curiosity, confidence, and continuous learning.
| Parent Question | What You Should Know |
|---|---|
| Who can participate? | Students from Classes 4 to 12 can participate in the subjects and levels applicable to their class. Registration is conducted through participating schools. |
| What is included in the examination fee? | The NLSO 2026 examination fee is ₹220 per student per subject, inclusive of GST, for participating schools in India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, and Nepal. It covers the official examination process, evaluation, participation certification, and applicable academic reporting. Additional benefits are governed by the current official programme brochure and notices. |
| Will every student receive a certificate? | Yes. Every eligible student who participates in the examination will receive a Certificate of Participation, subject to verification of examination and registration records. Merit certificates, medals, cash awards, and other recognition are governed by the published award criteria. |
| What is the Scientific Aptitude Index (SAI)? | SAI stands for Scientific Aptitude Index. It is a ScienceX academic performance indicator intended to help students understand their performance across areas such as conceptual understanding, application, reasoning, and interpretation, using the benchmarks and methodology applicable to the assessment. SAI should be interpreted as academic guidance, not as a permanent measure of intelligence or ability. |
| Are mock tests available? | ScienceX provides a free mock test as part of the NLSO 2026 programme. Students should follow the official instructions for access, availability, and applicable subjects. |
| Is the psychometric assessment compulsory? | No. Psychometric assessment is an optional learning-support resource. It may provide insights into learning preferences and related developmental areas, but it is not a medical diagnosis, fixed career judgement, or public ranking measure. Any processing of a child's personal data for this service must follow the applicable parental-consent and privacy requirements. |
| How are marks and rankings calculated? | Marks are calculated according to the scoring scheme published for the relevant examination and paper. Rankings, tie-breaking, moderation, and recognition follow the official NLSO rules and result notices. Parents should refer to the instructions printed on the question paper and current programme guidelines. |
| When will results, reports, and certificates be available? | ScienceX will communicate the applicable result, report, and certificate schedule through official notices and participating schools. Parents should check the current examination calendar and school communications for updates. |
| How is my child's personal information protected? | Student information is processed for authorised purposes, including registration, examination administration, evaluation, performance reporting, certification, support, and approved recognition. ScienceX applies its Privacy and Data Protection Policies to the handling of student records. Optional promotional use of a child's photograph or testimonial requires separate authorisation. |
| Is parental consent mandatory? | Yes. For every participating student below 18 years of age, the school must obtain parental or lawful-guardian consent before submitting the student's personal data to ScienceX. The school must maintain the prescribed consent record and comply with applicable verification requirements. |
| Can parents register their children directly? | NLSO 2026 follows a school-based registration process. Parents should contact their school's designated NLSO Coordinator for registration, examination arrangements, and student-record corrections. |
| What if there is a registration, payment, or result issue? | Parents should first contact the designated School Coordinator, who can submit a support request through the official ScienceX registration portal or Help Center. Parents may also contact ScienceX through its official support channels for unresolved concerns. |
How Parents Can Support Their Children
Parental encouragement can make the Olympiad experience more meaningful. The emphasis should remain on learning, curiosity, and personal improvement rather than comparison with other students.
- Understand the syllabus: Help your child review the applicable syllabus, subject, level, and examination pattern.
- Develop a preparation routine: Encourage a manageable four-week revision plan instead of last-minute pressure.
- Practise scientific reasoning: Discuss everyday scientific situations and encourage your child to explain how and why things happen.
- Use mock tests effectively: Help your child practise time management, question interpretation, and OMR marking.
- Encourage independent thinking: Allow your child to attempt unfamiliar problems and learn from mistakes.
- Interpret results constructively: Use marks and the SAI report to identify learning strengths and areas for improvement rather than labelling a child by rank or score.
- Protect your child's information: Review the ScienceX Privacy Notice and complete the mandatory Parent/Guardian Consent Form provided through the school.
- Communicate with the school: Contact the designated School Coordinator for registration, examination, and result-related concerns.
Parental Consent and Student Data Protection
ScienceX requires participating schools to obtain mandatory parental or lawful-guardian consent for students below 18 years of age before submitting their personal information for registration.
Schools are responsible for maintaining the prescribed consent records and following the ScienceX verification procedure. Consent for optional publicity or promotional activities is separate from consent required for examination participation.
Parents and lawful guardians may raise applicable privacy requests or grievances through the official ScienceX support and privacy channels.
